Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) in the mathematics classroom is not simply math instruction delivered to a small group of students with IEPs. SDI is instruction intentionally designed to address the unique learning needs of students with disabilities. In math, effective SDI leverages student strengths, fosters problem-solving skills, and creates space for learners to build both confidence and perseverance. When integrated with quality mathematical content, these practices do more than provide access; they help students view themselves as capable mathematicians.
